Orientation Overview

Attending volunteer orientation is a prerequisite to volunteering as an individual in any program at Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services. Volunteer orientation is a great way for potential volunteers to see if SFBFS is a good fit for them.

Volunteer orientation lasts approximately two hours and covers:

  • Policies and procedures
  • Safety information
  • Volunteer openings
  • Program descriptions
  • SFBFS' history
  • Volunteer application

During orientation, you will tour the facility and choose the program you are most interested in. Following orientation, the program manager will contact you for a brief interview. We will do our best to assign volunteers to their number one program of choice, however, placement in a volunteer position is not guaranteed, as there are not always openings for all volunteer positions.

Volunteer orientations are offered 4 times per month at both of our facilities. You may attend orientation at either the Oak Park or North Sacramento facility. Click here to see volunteer orientation dates on the Volunteer Calendar.

We also offer volunteer opportunities for groups with no orientation required. Click here for more information on group volunteering.
